    Robotaxi Services refer to driverless taxi services based on autonomous driving technology, providing point-to-point urban transportation services to passengers through mobile applications or platforms. Robotaxi are typically equipped with advanced sensors (such as LiDAR, cameras, and radar), high-precision maps, and AI decision-making and route planning systems to achieve Level 4/5 autonomous driving without human driver intervention. Compared to traditional taxis and ride-hailing services, Robotaxi can significantly reduce labor costs, improve operational efficiency, optimize urban transportation resources, and gradually integrate into smart city transportation systems. The gross margin of Robotaxi Services platforms is usually low or even unprofitable in the early stages of commercialization, but with economies of scale and operational optimization, the gross margin can gradually increase to the range of 20% to 35%.
    Robotaxis currently operate under several partnership models. The first model is "autonomous driving company + OEM + mobility service operator," exemplified by the partnerships between Waymo, Jaguar, and Uber. Waymo provides autonomous driving technology, Jaguar handles vehicle production, and Uber provides operational services. This division of labor accelerates the commercialization of the technology. The second model is "autonomous driving company + OEM + self-operated operator," represented by partnerships between Baidu's Robot Express and Jiangling Motors. Autonomous driving companies not only provide upstream technical solutions but also assume downstream operational responsibilities. The third model is Tesla's self-developed, self-produced, and self-operated model, encompassing autonomous driving technology development, vehicle production, and ultimately, operational services. Regarding BOM cost, the current cost of Baidu's sixth-generation vehicle is 204,600 yuan, while the cost of mainstream traditional taxis and ride-hailing vehicles is between 100,000 and 140,000 yuan. Therefore, Robotaxi needs to further reduce costs to the 150,000-200,000 yuan level to enhance competitiveness. Regarding the safety driver ratio, regulations require a 1:3 ratio, which accounts for the largest portion of the cost structure. In the future, under the premise of regulatory allowance, this ratio is expected to be gradually reduced to 1:20, thereby significantly reducing operating costs.

The emergence of a profitability inflection point depends not only on the maturity of the technology but also on multiple factors such as the degree of policy openness, cost control level, and market demand cultivation. From the current industry perspective, most companies are still in a stage where "input exceeds output." RoboTaxi operating costs remain high, including vehicle procurement, sensor retrofitting, algorithm maintenance, and safety personnel salaries, while current pricing and market penetration are insufficient to cover these costs. The key obstacle for RoboTaxi at present is not technology, but rather the consideration of return on investment (ROI). Deployment in specific regions is a strategic choice for commercial efficiency and resource optimization, but it is difficult to achieve large-scale profitability in the short term. With the entry of giants, resources will concentrate on companies with technological advantages, financial strength, and ecosystem integration capabilities, further compressing the survival space for small and medium-sized players.
