                        Summary

                        The governorates of Egypt - Cairo and Alexandria are the best performing regions in the country. They together generated 53.5% of the total GDP of the country and accounted for 16% of the total population in 2015. The UK continues to be a leading investor in Egypt, accounting for 34.6% of total FDI inflows in 2017-2018, followed by Belgium with 17.4%.

                        Mining, manufacturing and utilities sector contributed (31.0%) to the gross value added (GVA) in 2018, followed by the wholesale, retail and hotel sector (15.7%). In nominal terms, the two sectors are expected to grow by 19.1% and 18.5%, respectively, in 2019. The downward trend of the index indicates decreasing investor confidence in the country. The index declined from 17,944.0 on April 11, 2018, to 15,106.0 on April 11, 2019.

                        Scope

                        - As per the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI), transport and logistic infrastructure in Egypt depreciated over the last two years with an decline in rank from 49th in 2016 to 67th in 2018.
