      Summary

GlobalData's "Peru Copper Mining to 2023" comprehensively covers Peru's reserves of copper, historic and forecast trends in the country's copper production and the key active, exploration and development copper mines and projects. The report also analyses factors affecting the country’s demand for copper and profiles the major copper producers.

Peru by producing 2.4 million tonnes (Mt) of copper in 2018 stood as the world's second largest producer. The production volume fell marginally by 0.4% versus 2017, due to localized slippage and maintenance shutdown which led to a 15% decline in copper output at the Las Bambas mine. However, in 2019, the production is expected to increase by 2.6% to reach 2,501Kt, backed by higher production from the Southern Peru Copper Corporation coupled with the commencement of its new Toquepala concentrator, with a 100Kt copper capacity.

Production over the forecast period is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3%, to reach 2,812.7Kt by 2023. Growth will be backed by major upcoming copper projects, including Quellaveco, Tia Mari, Mina Justa and Zafranal, which together are expected to add 474.7Kt in capacity.
