On September 5, 2024, Oxford PV announced its first shipment of a commercial perovskite tandem module to a US customer, with a 72-cell solar module achieving an efficiency of 24.5%. Oxford PV plans to achieve mass production of perovskite-silicon tandem cells in 2026.
On June 12, 2025, LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. announced that its independently developed large-area (260.9 cm²) crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell achieved a conversion efficiency of 33%.
In July 2025, Caelux completed its first commercial customer order shipment for its active glass technology, and its current factory has a capacity of 100 MW.

Perovskite solar cells utilize perovskite-type organometal halide semiconductors as light-absorbing materials and belong to the third generation of solar cells. Third-generation solar cells mainly refer to some new concept cells with high conversion efficiency, such as dye-sensitized cells, quantum dot cells, and organic solar cells, also known as new concept solar cells. Perovskite solar cells have a similar layered structure to traditional photovoltaic cells. Perovskite cells mainly include two technical routes: single-junction and tandem. The theoretical limit photoelectric conversion efficiencies of single-junction and tandem cells are 33% and 44%, respectively, with tandem cells exhibiting higher conversion efficiency compared to crystalline silicon cells. Perovskite tandem solar cells offer significant efficiency improvements and represent the next stage of development for crystalline silicon. With crystalline silicon module costs falling below 1 yuan/W, the cost-effectiveness logic of a single perovskite cell is no longer viable. Perovskite-crystalline silicon tandem solar cells are compatible with existing crystalline silicon production capacity and can be combined with existing HJT and TOPCon technologies. Upgrading products can be achieved simply by adding perovskite processing to existing production lines. The resulting tandem modules are expected to achieve efficiencies exceeding 30%, representing a generational difference compared to traditional crystalline silicon. Perovskite cell manufacturers, crystalline silicon manufacturers, and equipment manufacturers have reached a consensus on the tandem technology route, which is poised to become the industry mainstream.
