PE anti-static agents are functional plastic additives used in polyethylene resins and PE products to reduce surface resistivity and static charge accumulation. They are applied through internal compounding, anti-static masterbatches, topical coatings, or permanent conductive modification, and are mainly used in PE films, flexible packaging, anti-static bags, protective films, industrial packaging, electronics packaging, agricultural films, foams, and molded or blow-molded PE products.
The upstream supply chain consists mainly of fatty acids, stearic acid, glycerol, ethoxylation feedstocks, fatty amines, diethanolamine, quaternary ammonium intermediates, polyether/polyamide/polyester functional polymers, and PP/PE carrier resins. Downstream demand is concentrated in PE films, flexible packaging, electronics packaging, industrial packaging, protective films, agricultural films, PE foams, blow-molded containers, and injection-molded products.
In 2025, global PE anti-static agents production reached approximately 25 kilotons, with an average global market price is approximately $4,500 per ton.
From a global industry perspective, PE anti-static agents have evolved from conventional film-processing additives into functional modification materials related to packaging efficiency, clean surfaces, electronics protection and safety compliance. Polyethylene is highly insulating, and static can accumulate during film winding, bag opening, powder packaging, logistics friction, electronics packaging and industrial-container use, leading to film adhesion, poor opening, dust contamination, electronic-component damage or discharge risks in flammable environments. Conventional migratory antistats are low-cost and fast acting, making them suitable for general packaging films, shopping bags, industrial bags and short-life PE products, but their performance can be affected by humidity, temperature, wiping, aging and migration equilibrium. Avient also explains that temporary antistatic additives often dissipate static by absorbing and ionizing moisture from the air to create a conductive path on the polymer surface. For electronics packaging, clean packaging, medical films, premium industrial liners and long-term dust-prevention products, the market is shifting toward low-migration, non-blooming and permanent antistatic systems.
