p-Anisidine, with the molecular formula C7H9NO and CAS number 104-94-9, is an important intermediate for dyes, medicines and fragrances. It is mostly a light brown to yellow solid at room temperature and is toxic.
Since the late 1980s, some major p-Anisole manufacturers in Western Europe and Japan have successively closed their production facilities. In contrast, with the rise of China's dye industry, the production capacity and output of p-Anisole have grown rapidly, and China has become the world's major producer and supplier of p-Anisole.
In traditional industrial production methods, domestic manufacturers mostly use the "chemical reduction method", that is, iron powder or sodium sulfide is used as a reducing agent to reduce p-Nitroanisole to prepare p-Anisole. However, this process has many disadvantages such as high consumption, high cost and poor quality, especially the large amount of wastewater and waste residue discharged, which has caused serious environmental pollution, which is contrary to the development direction of green chemical industry advocated by China. If wastewater and waste residue are treated, it will not only greatly increase the cost, but also may cause secondary pollution due to improper treatment.
