Key technical parameters include ground sample distance, spectral bands, swath width, revisit rate, geolocation accuracy, agility, onboard storage, downlink capacity, imaging mode and mission lifetime. Optical EO satellites are used in mapping, defense intelligence, natural resource management, agriculture, disaster response, environmental monitoring, urban governance, maritime surveillance and commercial geospatial intelligence, making them a core layer of space-based information infrastructure.
    Based on our research, the nature of the optical remote sensing satellite industry has shifted from the manufacturing of single high-value spacecraft toward a compound supply structure combining “high-end single satellites + small and medium-sized satellite constellations + standardized optical payloads + closed-loop data services.” Traditional large prime contractors still control 30 cm-class, very-high-resolution, and government defense projects; at the same time, companies are expanding industry boundaries through mass-produced small satellites, commercial constellations, and sovereign EO solutions.
