    Microcellular Thermoplastic Polyurethane Foam (MTPU) is a foamed thermoplastic polyurethane material with a fine cellular structure distributed within a TPU matrix. Compared with solid TPU, it is designed to reduce apparent density while preserving the core merits of TPU such as elasticity, resilience, abrasion resistance, impact resistance, and long-term durability. In commercial practice, MTPU is mainly used where lightweighting, cushioning, energy return, comfort, and mechanical robustness must be balanced in one material system.
    From the upstream perspective, the core raw-material base of MTPU is TPU resin, and TPU itself is built from polyols, diisocyanates, and short-chain diols/chain extenders; depending on product design, the formulation may also involve foaming media or foaming packages as well as stabilizing and functional additives. From the downstream perspective, MTPU is mainly used in footwear midsoles and sole components, sports and protective cushioning parts, automotive interior and NVH components, wearables and flexible electronic carriers, and industrial cushioning / vibration-isolation / protective parts.
    In 2025, global sales of MTPU reached approximately 65 K tons, with an average global market price of around US$ 5,092/ton. Production capacity varies significantly among manufacturers, with gross profit margins ranging from approximately 20% to 50%.
