    Intake manifold is a core airflow distribution component in the engine intake system. It routes air (air–fuel mixture) from the throttle/charger to each cylinder with controlled flow balance, while leveraging runner geometry and resonator volumes to improve volumetric efficiency, transient response, NVH and emissions.
    Upstream inputs include engineering polymers (e.g., GF-reinforced polyamides), aluminum alloys, seals/fasteners, plus sensors and actuators. Downstream is mainly Tier-1 supply to OEMs, with aftermarket sold as assemblies/kits.
    In 2025, global intake manifold production reached approximately 95 million units, with an average global market price is between $20 per unit.
    Intake Manifolds are key components in internal combustion engine intake systems that distribute air or air-fuel mixture from the throttle body, turbocharger or intake tract to each cylinder intake port, mainly serving gasoline engines, diesel engines, hybrid engines, commercial vehicle engines and selected off-road power equipment.From a global industry perspective, intake manifolds have evolved from conventional aluminum or cast-iron air-distribution passages into functional engine components combining lightweight design, airflow optimization, emissions support and system integration. Their value lies not only in distributing air, but also in influencing volumetric efficiency, torque output, combustion stability and emissions through runner length, cross-section, plenum volume, swirl or tumble control and pressure-wave tuning. In gasoline direct injection engines, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber, so the intake manifold mainly handles air distribution and airflow organization; Bosch notes that in gasoline direct injection, only fresh air flows into the intake port while fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber by high-pressure injectors. As a result, modern intake manifold design is closely linked with turbocharging, EGR, crankcase ventilation, sensor placement, throttle control and engine thermal management.
    In terms of industry trends, intake manifolds are moving toward lightweighting, plastic materials, modular design, functional integration, lower pressure loss, variable intake systems and hybrid-engine compatibility. Traditional metal intake manifolds retain advantages in heat resistance and structural strength, but engineering-plastic intake manifolds are widely used in passenger-car gasoline engines because they are lighter, offer greater design freedom, provide better thermal insulation and allow integration of sensors, valves and oil-separation functions. As engines become smaller, turbocharged, direct-injected and more thermally efficient, intake manifolds must deliver more uniform cylinder-to-cylinder distribution, lower flow resistance, better NVH performance and stable thermal-aging durability within tighter packaging space. Variable-length intake systems, intake flaps, tumble-control valves and integrated charge-air cooling remain relevant in selected high-efficiency engines to optimize torque, combustion efficiency and emissions across operating conditions. In direct-injection engines, airflow organization is also increasingly important for mixture formation, particulate control and combustion stability.
    The main growth drivers come from three areas. First, emissions standards, fuel-economy requirements and the pursuit of higher engine efficiency are pushing intake manifolds from ordinary structural components toward functional parts involved in combustion optimization and emissions control. Second, hybrid and range-extender vehicles still require efficient combustion engines, often operating in narrower and more efficient load ranges, which creates higher requirements for intake-system flow distribution, response, thermal management and durability. Third, vehicle lightweighting, component integration and platform-based powertrain development are driving intake manifolds toward plastic materials, welded or vibration-welded structures, sensor integration and modular assemblies. Electrification will reduce the long-term space for conventional pure ICE vehicles; the IEA’s Global EV Outlook 2025 states that EVs are set to displace more than 5 million barrels per day of diesel and gasoline by 2030, meaning future intake manifold demand will rely more on hybrid platforms, high-efficiency combustion engines, commercial/off-road engines and aftermarket replacement rather than simple growth in conventional ICE vehicle installation volume.
