The midstream includes mica beneficiation, mica-paper production, impregnation, resin formulation, layer assembly, hot pressing, curing, thickness calibration, surface finishing, dielectric testing, thermal testing, cutting, and packaging. The downstream mainly covers electrical heating equipment, industrial furnaces, motors and generators, automotive batteries, power equipment, transportation, and other high-temperature electrical systems.
Demand for high-temperature mica insulation sheets is supported by industrial electrification, expansion of induction and resistance-heating equipment, higher power density in motors and generators, and increased thermal-propagation protection requirements in electric-vehicle and energy-storage batteries.
Mica combines electrical insulation, low thermal conductivity, flame resistance, and the ability to retain functional integrity during high-temperature exposure. Rigid mica boards are widely used as heater supports, furnace insulation plates, electrical partitions, and machinable high-temperature components. Flexible sheets are used where the material must wrap curved surfaces or accommodate assembly tolerances.
Electric-vehicle battery applications are increasing demand for thin mica barriers positioned between cells, modules, busbars, and battery enclosures. Commercial battery-grade mica systems can provide electrical isolation and delay heat transfer during short-duration thermal events; however, system performance depends on thickness, compression, joint design, and installation method rather than the mica material alone.
Phlogopite and synthetic mica are gaining importance in extreme-temperature applications, while muscovite remains widely used in appliances and general industrial electrical insulation because of its dielectric strength, availability, and processing properties.
Future development will focus on thinner battery barriers, inorganic and low-smoke binder systems, improved mechanical strength after high-temperature exposure, fiberglass or metal-mesh reinforcement, lower resin content, automated stamping and laser processing, and more complete material traceability.
