    Flame-retardant cable jacket compound is a polymer compound designed for extrusion into the outer jacket layer of wires and cables. Its core function is to provide external protection for power, communication, optical fiber, rail transit, marine and offshore, new energy vehicle, photovoltaic, and data center cables under fire, thermal shock, mechanical abrasion, moisture, ultraviolet exposure, oil contamination, and chemical media. These products are generally based on polyolefin, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, cross-linked polyolefin, thermoplastic polyurethane, or thermoplastic elastomer matrices, and are modified with halogen-free flame retardants, mineral fillers, char-forming systems, antioxidants, lubricants, compatibilizers, UV stabilizers, and oil-resistant additives to form low-smoke zero-halogen, halogen-free flame-retardant, flame-retardant PVC, oil-resistant, weather-resistant, crack-resistant, anti-dripping, highly flexible, or high-flame-retardant series. They are mainly supplied as pellets to cable manufacturers and are extruded through single-screw or dedicated LSZH screw equipment to form the jacket layer. Key requirements include flame retardancy, smoke density, halogen acid gas release, tensile strength, elongation at break, heat aging resistance, environmental stress cracking resistance, oil resistance, and low-temperature performance. Their commercial value comes from their ability to meet upgraded cable safety regulations, fire protection requirements in public buildings and confined spaces, low-smoke and low-toxicity requirements in rail transit and marine applications, high-reliability wiring in new energy systems, and large-scale deployment of communication optical cables.
    The industrial value of flame-retardant cable jacket compounds is shifting from basic material supply to becoming part of the safety capability of cable systems. Conventional jacket compounds mainly provide mechanical protection, moisture resistance, abrasion resistance, and external covering, while public buildings, transportation facilities, data centers, marine and offshore applications, and new energy scenarios impose higher requirements on smoke density, toxicity, corrosive gases, dripping behavior, flame spread, and evacuation safety under fire conditions.
