According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Flame-blown C-glass Microfiber market size was valued at US$ 273 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 623 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 12.2% during review period.
Global sales of flame-blown C-glass microfiber reached 109.3 thousand tons in 2025, with an average price of US$2,422 per ton.
Flame-blown C-glass microfiber is an acid-resistant borosilicate glass microfiber produced through a flame attenuation process. Its fiber diameter typically ranges from 0.5 to 3 micrometers, exhibiting extremely high specific surface area and excellent acid resistance. The process involves first forming coarser primary fibers from molten glass (flowing through a perforator or crucible), then feeding them into a high-temperature, high-velocity combustion flame (typically using natural gas-oxygen or propane-oxygen flames, reaching temperatures of 1500-2000°C). The heat and kinetic energy of the flame are used to stretch and refine the fibers to the target diameter. C-glass (Chemical glass) is a special glass formulation based on silicon dioxide, containing a high proportion of calcium oxide, boron oxide, and sodium oxide. It exhibits excellent acid corrosion resistance, making it particularly suitable for applications with harsh chemical environments, such as AGM (Absorbent Glass Gap) separators in lead-acid batteries.
The raw material system for flame-processed C-glass microfibers is based on mineral raw materials, primarily including: quartz sand (SiO₂, 50-60%) as the network former; borax (Na₂B₄O₇·10H₂O, 5-10%) to introduce B₂O₃ to lower the melting point and improve acid resistance; limestone (CaCO₃, 10-15%) to provide CaO to enhance chemical stability; soda ash (Na₂CO₃, 10-15%) as a flux; and fluorite (CaF₂, 1-3%) as a clarifying agent to accelerate bubble removal. Some high-end formulations also add zirconium oxide (ZrO₂) or barium oxide (BaO) to further enhance acid resistance and strength. In the production process, raw materials are melted in a tank furnace at 1500-1600℃ to form molten glass, which flows out through a platinum-rhodium alloy baffle (400-4000 holes) to form primary fibers (20-100μm in diameter). These fibers are then rapidly stretched and refined to the target diameter (0.5-3μm) by a high-temperature gas flame (1500-2000℃). Finally, the finished product is produced through processes such as fiber collection, sizing (for some products), drying, and slitting.
In terms of cost structure, raw material costs account for approximately 35-45%, with relatively stable prices for mineral raw materials such as quartz sand, borax, and soda ash. However, high-quality low-iron quartz sand (Fe₂O₃<0.1%) and special borax require import or fine processing, resulting in higher costs. Energy costs account for a significant 30-40%, making it the largest single cost item. The flame process requires large amounts of natural gas or propane to maintain the high-temperature flame, and the furnace melting requires continuous power supply, leading to continuously rising energy costs under the "dual carbon" environment. Equipment depreciation and maintenance costs account for approximately 15-20%, with large investments in platinum-rhodium alloy spinnerets (service life 6-12 months), high-temperature refractory materials, and precision wire drawing equipment, resulting in an investment of approximately 0.8-1 billion RMB per 10,000 tons of capacity per production line. Environmental protection and compliance costs are increasingly significant, including kiln flue gas denitrification and dust removal, fiber dust collection (occupational health protection), and solid waste treatment, accounting for 5-10% of total costs.
