According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global Fiberglass Direct Roving Yarn market size was valued at US$ 6445 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 8933 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 4.7% during review period.
Fiberglass direct roving yarn is an untwisted continuous glass fiber roving produced by drawing filaments directly from bushings, gathering them into a parallel strand, applying a sizing system and winding them onto packages. It is a core reinforcement material for composite manufacturing. Key upstream materials include silica sand, pyrophyllite, limestone, boron minerals, soda ash, kaolin, alumina and sizing systems compatible with thermoset or thermoplastic resins, such as silane-, epoxy- and polyurethane-based formulations. It is mainly used in pultrusion, filament winding, weaving, knitting, LFT/GMT, thermoplastic composites and prepregs. Downstream applications include wind blades, automotive lightweight components, pipes, tanks, pressure vessels, construction profiles, cable strength members, marine, aerospace and sports equipment.
In 2025, global fiberglass directroving yarn production reached approximately 6.8 million tons, with an average global market price is $900 per ton.
From a global industry perspective, fiberglass direct roving yarn has become an important base material for continuous-fiber-reinforced composites. Compared with fiberglass assembled roving, direct roving is generally made from a single continuous strand package, offering more uniform tension, smoother unwinding and lower fuzz, which makes it better suited to continuous pulling, directional placement and processes requiring high fiber-orientation consistency. Johns Manville describes direct roving as a material used in pultrusion and woven fiberglass fabrics, treated with silane-based sizing to ensure compatibility with UP, VE and epoxy resins. This means the value of direct roving is not limited to glass-fiber strength; it directly affects composite strength, surface quality, forming efficiency and batch consistency through stable unwinding, fast wet-out and resin-interface compatibility.
In terms of industry trends, fiberglass direct roving yarn is moving toward higher strength, more stable tex, lower fuzz, faster wet-out, fewer breaks, uniform tension, resin-specific sizing and stronger compatibility with automated forming. Traditional direct rovings focused mainly on tensile strength, linear density and price, while pultrusion, filament winding, LFT and weaving customers increasingly evaluate sizing formulation, unwinding tension, filament-damage control, resin impregnation speed, package formation and batch consistency. Direct roving can be used in weaving, pultrusion and filament winding, and product materials emphasize even tension, low fuzz and excellent wettability. In LFT/D-LFT thermoplastic reinforcement, direct roving must also support fast impregnation during pultrusion before the impregnated strands are cooled and cut into long-fiber thermoplastic pellets. As a result, future competition will shift from basic glass-fiber strength and price toward fiber diameter, sizing chemistry, resin compatibility, continuous-processing stability and final composite performance.
The main growth drivers come from three areas. First, pultruded profiles, composite rebar, cable trays, gratings, window and door profiles, wind components, pipes and tanks, and electrical insulation products continue to require continuous, high-strength and corrosion-resistant fiberglass reinforcement. Second, filament-wound pressure vessels, FRP pipes, storage tanks, marine composites and infrastructure composites are raising requirements for fiber continuity, tension stability, wet-out speed and mechanical consistency, pushing direct roving from general-purpose grades toward process-specific products. Third, growth in LFT, D-LFT, CFRT and thermoplastic composite lightweighting is expanding the use of direct roving in automotive, transportation, construction and industrial structural parts.
