    The global electric desalter & dehydrator market reached $1.789 billion in 2024, with a gross margin of approximately 36.59%. Electric desalter & dehydrator, also known as electrostatic dehydration/desalting equipment, is a key piece of equipment used for deep dehydration and desalting in the oilfield crude oil export processing and refining/chemical feedstock pretreatment stages. Its basic working principle is that under the action of a high-voltage electric field (typically 10–35 kV), through a polarization-coalescing-sedimentation mechanism, the fine water droplets in the crude oil emulsion system attract each other and coalesce into larger droplets. This is then supplemented by demulsifiers, gravity sedimentation, and dilution water injection (in the desalting process) to achieve oil-water separation and inorganic salt migration. In upstream oilfield scenarios, extracted crude oil, after initial separation, typically still contains 10%–30% water and some inorganic salts, making it unsuitable for direct export. It requires deep dehydration through electric dehydration equipment to reduce the water content to below 0.5% to meet pipeline transportation standards. In the pretreatment stage of oil refineries, crude oil must undergo electrostatic desalting (ESD) to remove dissolved or emulsified inorganic salts (such as NaCl, CaCl₂, and MgCl₂) before entering the atmospheric and vacuum distillation tower. Failure to remove these salts can lead to problems such as furnace coking, pipeline corrosion, heat exchanger blockage, and catalyst poisoning, significantly increasing refining energy consumption and maintenance costs. The desalting process typically involves injecting a certain amount of dilution water to dilute the salt concentration, allowing the salts to migrate with the aqueous phase, and then separating the water from the oil phase within a high-voltage electric field. After desalting, the salt content of crude oil can generally be reduced to <5 mg/L, and under optimal operating conditions, it can reach ≤1 mg/L, thus ensuring long-term, low-corrosion, safe, and stable operation of refining units. ESD equipment is widely used in upstream oil and gas extraction, onshore gathering and transportation stations, offshore engineering platforms, refining and chemical plants, and storage and transportation terminals, serving as a key node for oilfield export quality control and refinery energy efficiency management. Typical downstream customers include large domestic and international petrochemical companies such as Sinopec, PetroChina, CNOOC, Yulong Petrochemical, Oriental Shenghong, Rongsheng Petrochemical, Jingbo Holdings Group, as well as international companies such as ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), KPC (Kuwait Oil Company), Qatar Energy, and Petrobras (Brazilian National Oil Company).
