    Upstream raw materials primarily include pseudoboehmite or gamma-alumina supports, ammonium molybdate or molybdenum oxide, nickel nitrate, and cobalt nitrate; some formulations incorporate titanium dioxide, rare-earth promoters, peptizing agents, pore-forming agents, and extrusion aids. Midstream processing involves support kneading and shaping, calcination, active metal impregnation, drying, and sulfidation activation to produce cylindrical or multi-lobed extrudate catalysts for fixed-bed reactors, which are loaded in separate pre-hydrogenation and main hydrogenation zones. Downstream applications center on crude benzene refining units at integrated iron and steel coking plants, independent coking plants, and coal-chemical enterprises; these facilities integrate hydrogen production, desulfurization, extractive distillation, and aromatics separation units to ultimately produce pure benzene, toluene, and mixed xylenes.
