he market is shifting from periodic compressed-air audits toward permanent online monitoring. A temporary audit can identify current inefficiencies, but a fixed system can detect changes in leakage, production demand, pressure and equipment performance immediately after they occur.
Electrical data alone cannot determine compressed-air efficiency. A compressor may consume stable power while producing less air because of wear, high inlet temperature, excessive pressure or poor control. Reliable energy monitoring therefore requires power and flow to be measured over the same time interval.
Monitoring only the compressor room is also insufficient for many factories. Supply-side measurements show how much air is produced, while distribution and point-of-use measurements reveal where the air is consumed, where pressure is lost and which departments create abnormal demand.
Specific energy is becoming the principal normalized KPI. It allows facilities with different production volumes, operating hours and compressor combinations to compare energy performance on a consistent basis. Where production-output data are available, compressed-air consumption can also be normalized by product, batch or machine-hour.
Leakage analytics are moving beyond one-time ultrasonic surveys. Continuous systems identify non-production baseload, abnormal night or weekend consumption and gradual increases in branch-line demand. These data help plants verify whether repaired leaks remain closed and whether energy savings are maintained.
