Downstream applications primarily involve enterprises in oil refining, specialty petroleum products, and fine chemicals; these catalysts are typically loaded into hydrogenation units for diesel, aviation kerosene, white oil, solvent oil, and base oil, or utilized as functional catalyst beds for aromatic saturation within hydrocracking or deep hydrofinishing systems.
Global sales volume is projected to reach approximately 8,500 metric tons in 2025. Prices are largely determined by factors such as active metal content, carrier type, and sulfur resistance, with an average price of around $33 per kilogram and gross profit margins for major manufacturers ranging from 30% to 40%.
The demand for aromatic saturation hydrogenation catalysts is primarily driven by the upgrading of clean fuel quality, the need to improve diesel cetane numbers and jet fuel smoke points, and the growing demand for pharmaceutical-grade white oil, low-aromatic solvent oils, and high-quality base oils.
