The supply chain begins upstream with petrochemical aromatics (paraxylene → purified terephthalic acid, phenol derivatives, specialty glycols), moves to midstream monomer synthesis and controlled copolymerization by specialty resin manufacturers, then to formulation (additives, catalysts, fillers, glass/carbon fiber reinforcement), followed by compounding and prepreg production. Downstream integration includes composite molding (SMC/BMC, RTM, filament winding), coating application, and encapsulation processes serving end users in aerospace, automotive under-the-hood systems, electrical insulation, and industrial equipment, where performance certification and long qualification cycles create high switching costs and strong supplier lock-in.
