    Amorphous silica-alumina (ASA) catalysts are solid acid catalysts composed of SiO₂ and Al₂O₃ uniformly composited at the molecular scale, maintaining an amorphous structure (no crystalline peaks in XRD). Their surface simultaneously possesses Brønsted acid sites (BAS) and Lewis acid sites (LAS), and the acid density and strength can be controlled by parameters such as the Si/Al ratio, calcination temperature, and hydrothermal treatment. Due to their large pore size and high specific surface area (200–600 m² g⁻¹), they are widely used in heavy oil catalytic cracking (FCC), olefin oligomerization, biomass aromatization, alkyl transfer, and hydrocracking reactions, acting as an "acid support" or "bifunctional acid."
    Industrial-grade ASA uses silica sol (or water glass) and sodium aluminate/aluminum sulfate as co-precipitation precursors. The process involves acid-alkali co-flow precipitation, aging, filtration, drying, and calcination at 600 °C before shaping. In terms of raw material costs, water glass accounts for 35–40%, aluminum sulfate for 20–25%, acid (H₂SO₄) and alkali (NaOH) for 10%, energy consumption (drying + calcination) for 15%, and labor and environmental treatment for 10–15%.
