Glufosinate, also known as L-glufosinate-ammonium, was first discovered in soil Streptomyces fermentation product bialaphos. It is metabolized into L-glufosinate-ammonium and two amino acids in plants. It is a natural amino acid herbicide with a C-P-C structure. Its green, safe and environmentally friendly significance is significantly superior to chemical synthetic herbicides such as diquat, glyphosate and ordinary glufosinate-ammonium. Glufosinate-ammonium belongs to the phosphonic acid herbicide, and its mechanism of action is the same as that of glufosinate-ammonium. Glufosinate-ammonium is a racemate of D/L-glufosinate-ammonium, and only L-glufosinate-ammonium has herbicidal activity. It acts on plant glutamine synthetase to inhibit L-glutamine synthesis, resulting in accumulation of cytotoxic ammonium ions, ammonium metabolism disorders, amino acid deficiency, chlorophyll disintegration, and photosynthesis inhibition, ultimately killing weeds completely.
