According to our (Global Info Research) latest study, the global 4G Satellite Communication Module market size was valued at US$ 226 million in 2025 and is forecast to a readjusted size of US$ 1824 million by 2032 with a CAGR of 28.7% during review period.
4G/LTE satellite IoT communication modules are embedded wireless modules that combine terrestrial LTE-M, NB-IoT, Cat-M, Cat-NB2, eMTC or EGPRS connectivity with satellite-based non-terrestrial network capability. These modules allow IoT devices to use terrestrial cellular networks where available and fall back to satellite NTN connectivity in remote, maritime, rural or infrastructure-limited areas. They are mainly used for low-power, low-throughput and long-lifecycle IoT applications such as asset tracking, smart metering, environmental monitoring, maritime logistics, pipeline monitoring, agriculture, emergency communication and remote industrial telemetry.
4G/LTE satellite IoT communication modules represent an early but strategically important bridge between terrestrial cellular IoT and non-terrestrial network connectivity. Unlike conventional 4G modules, these products combine LTE-M, NB-IoT, Cat-M, Cat-NB2 or related low-power cellular technologies with satellite NTN capability, allowing IoT devices to remain connected when terrestrial networks are unavailable. 3GPP Release 17 was the first release to include normative NTN requirements, creating a standards-based path for satellite-enabled IoT modules rather than relying only on proprietary satellite protocols. This makes the category especially relevant for remote monitoring, asset tracking, maritime logistics, agriculture, utilities, emergency communication and industrial telemetry.
From the demand side, the value proposition is not high-speed data transmission but coverage resilience. Many IoT devices transmit small amounts of data at long intervals, but they may operate in rural, maritime, offshore, mining, pipeline, logistics or disaster-prone areas where terrestrial cellular coverage is intermittent or unavailable. 4G satellite communication modules address this gap by using terrestrial LTE-M or NB-IoT where coverage exists and satellite NTN as a backup or complementary link. This dual-mode model can reduce the need for separate satellite terminals while preserving the low-power, low-throughput economics of cellular IoT.
The supply structure is led by established wireless module vendors rather than satellite operators. Quectel, Murata, u-blox, SIMCom, Fibocom, Semtech / Sierra Wireless, Telit Cinterion and Nordic Semiconductor are the key companies to track from a module-hardware perspective. Quectel’s BG95-S5 is positioned as a 3GPP NTN satellite communication module supporting Rel-17 IoT-NTN, LPWA and integrated GNSS; SIMCom’s SIM7070G-HP-S supports Rel-17 IoT-NTN with Cat-M and Cat-NB2; u-blox’s SARA-S528NM10 is described as a combined terrestrial and non-terrestrial IoT module; and Murata’s Type 1SC-NTN has received Skylo certification for dual-mode cellular and NTN capabilities.
Competition in this market should be analyzed by value-chain layer. Module manufacturers provide the embedded hardware; chipset vendors provide modem and baseband platforms; satellite NTN service providers supply the network; and connectivity platforms manage activation, roaming and commercial service delivery. Companies such as Qualcomm, Sony Altair, Skylo, Monogoto, Sateliot, Myriota and Omnispace are important to the ecosystem, but they should not be counted as core module manufacturers under a narrow module-hardware definition. The main barriers for module vendors are NTN certification, power consumption, RF and antenna design, weak-signal performance, standards compliance, satellite operator compatibility and the ability to manage both terrestrial and satellite network behavior in one embedded product.
Looking ahead, 4G/LTE satellite IoT modules are likely to scale first in low-data-rate, long-lifecycle and remote-deployment use cases. Asset tracking, smart metering, oil and gas infrastructure, remote agriculture, environmental monitoring, maritime logistics and emergency alerting are better early markets than broadband communications. Standardized 3GPP NTN will also make it easier for device OEMs to design global products because the same cellular IoT architecture can increasingly support both terrestrial and satellite coverage. However, adoption will depend on satellite service pricing, antenna integration, certification readiness, network availability and whether customers see a clear total-cost-of-ownership advantage over proprietary satellite IoT devices.
Over the medium term, the market is expected to evolve from “NTN-ready” modules and pilot deployments toward certified, multi-network, dual-mode cellular-satellite modules bundled with antennas, reference designs and connectivity services. Chinese module vendors are likely to compete through product breadth, cost execution and fast iteration; European and Japanese suppliers will remain strong in industrial reliability, GNSS integration and global certification; North American ecosystem players will remain important in satellite network access, semiconductor platforms and service orchestration. The long-term winners will be companies that can combine module hardware, standards compliance, satellite network certification, low-power design and global deployment support into a reliable commercial package.
